“The Healing Power of ART” online exhibition began as annual event when the Manhattan Arts International website was launched in 2000. Prior to 2000 I curated exhibitions about art and healing in NYC galleries and alternative spaces. Since then, we have expanded our titles related to “The Healing Power of Art” and have included such themes as “The Healing Power of ART in Honor of Nature”, “The Healing Power of Color”, and “The Healing Power of ART 2020”.

Why We Present The Healing Power of ART Exhibitions
Medical research has increasingly revealed that creating and viewing art has an impact on our brain waves and serotonin levels — “the feel good” hormone. Art can also elicit pain, controversy and empathy by mirroring the horrors of the human condition. Consider the impact of Picasso’s Guernica, the murals of Diego Rivera, Jacob Lawrence’s “Migration” series and “War” series, and the enormous amount of social, political and environmental art that has been created through the ages. That category of art is vitally important as it raises awareness and inspires positive change.
We feel it is essential to promote Art that has the potential to reveal the truth about the human experience and the world in which we live. Art that expresses new and unique aspects of humanity, nature, social, political, and spiritual realms helps us learn, evolve and transform.
I have had the pleasure of curating more than 70 art exhibitions in NYC venues and also online. Artists from all continents have participated in our exhibitions and have received widespread publicity and promotion. We use the power of social media to bring attention to the artists, their art, and their websites.
We are delighted that through our exhibitions many artists have been invited to join the artist membership programs here and Manhattan Arts International. This has led to many more opportunities for them to develop professional relationships, increase sales, and be discovered by art enthusiasts. These artists have also been the subject of many articles that appear in art websites, blogs and magazines.

Renee, your commitment to the Art, Healing and overall education is invaluable. I will definatley participate as a firm believer in the power of Art to Heal and be used as a learning tool for the child with disabilities. I know. I used art to keep my youngest son from Special Ed Grouping (not teaching) in the state I live in. To be grouped with behavioral problem children is a different need than a remedial learner.
My best best was to teach him to read, memorize, math until 2nd grade and he could mainstream. BUT, it was with the integration of using my art background as a relaxation tool when his mind was tired. He could focus with a different part of his brain. We had three stations and made it fun, challenging and relaxing at the time needed. Then back to work.
Art is therapeutic to me as an artist and to my students once they have a bit of confidence. Sincerely,
Vicki P. Maguire

Vicki, thank you very much for your kind words and for sharing your experience about how you developed a way to help your son using art as a relaxation tool. Isn’t it extraordinary that sometimes the most creative and constructive solutions come from our challenges. I’m sure your comment will inspire others who are in the same or similar situation as you to follow your lead. I wish the public education and special education systems would increase their art programs instead of eliminating and limiting them. All the best to you, Renee
