About Mary Chaplin: Mary Chaplin grew up in Picardie, France, well known for its amazing light, where she still lives and works, near Amiens, North of Paris. Her exuberant nature-inspired paintings are nestled between reality and dreams, and combine elements of impressionism and abstraction. Her artwork is widely exhibited in galleries throughout Europe and is in many private collections throughout the world.
For Mary the garden is a passion for her. “Creating it, observing it and taking care of it gives me immense pleasure.” She feels compelled to express her love of flowers and other forms of nature. Her nature-inspired paintings resonate with the animated gestural strokes of Claude Monet and Joan Mitchell and reflect the lyricism of Alfred Manessier.
Her artwork has been published in the press and specialized art magazines and also broadcasted on television. Her many accolades include having her art published on the cover of Artists Magazine and in such publications as The Bible de l’Art Abstrait.
Upon the invitation of the Somme department, a retrospective of her 15 years of abstraction including more than 80 works took place at the Abbey of St. Riquier Hauts de France in 2021.
Mary is also a member of Manhattan Arts International online gallery. She received an Award of Excellence in its “New Beginnings” exhibition and an Award of Excellence in “The Healing Power of Art 2020” and “Our Bond With Nature” exhibition.

Mary Chaplin’s Artist’s Statement: “My art transfers my feelings to light, nature, the joy of living in all its beauty to canvas in figurative and abstract style nourishing each other and giving my paintings life. For me painting is a form of daily nourishment, mindfulness, each canvas being a spiritual and sensory journey. My works are an invitation for others to join my world of meditative fulfilment on the ephemeral nature of light. I use various techniques, pastel, oil and acrylic on canvas in large or medium formats. I like to create polyptychs which allow me to create large spaces of immersion to transmit my emotions.”
Interesting Fact about Mary Chaplin: “I was born near the sea in the north of France. In 2019 I found an old tumbledown shop and house with workshop 10 minutes from the sea in Normandy. Now renovated I have my gallery and studio overlooking the River Durdent, also a beautiful garden which is inspirational!”
