Splashes of Hope is a non-profit organization that has helped hundreds of medical facilities transform their walls to enhance the moods of their patients. Art is “splashed” on the walls of a vast array of facilities such as orphanages, cancer centers, hospitals, veterans homes, nursing homes, children’s hospitals, hospices, and shelters, and many more.
The organization was founded by Heather Buggée in 1996. We salute this woman and Splashes of Hope as among our favorite world changers. According to the history revealed on Splashes’ website, Buggée couldn’t help but notice how dreary the hospital was when visiting her terminally ill friend afflicted with Hodgkin’s Disease. During those visits she and her friend discussed the many positive ways to enhance the hospital’s aesthetics. They believed that by improving the environment it would greatly improve the patient’s spirit and attitude, and help their healing process. The ideas that originated in these conversations led Buggée to take to take action and Splashes of Hope was born.
On the Splashes of Hope website you will find their mission statement: “We at Splashes of Hope dedicate ourselves to transform, enrich and facilitate healing through art. With this mission, we have brought murals and other artistic projects to medical and social service facilities around the globe. Our murals are custom-designed to meet the specific needs of the facility’s patients, staff and visitors.”
How Artists Can Help Splashes of Hope
The organization works with volunteer artists, donations and donations in-kind to create the murals. Artists can volunteer to design murals for hospitals, or get trained to paint murals for locations across the country. The administrative office and art studio for Splashes of Hope are located in Huntington, New York. For information visit the website’s volunteer page.
Splashes of Hope Appreciates Support from FM Brush, Inc.
As we know in order to provide their services non-profit organizations have to rely on donations from individuals and companies. Splashes of Hope has received help from Frederick Mink, President and CEO of FM Brush Company. Established in 1929, it is the world’s premiere manufacturer of artist, cosmetic, craft, hobby and custom-made brushes. Mink has been working tirelessly with the artists and provides them with the best art tools to use when creating their art projects. As a result of his efforts Splashes and the local and national healing community have benefited.
As a show of appreciation Splashes of Hope will be honoring Mink as their 2015 “Man of the Year”, at its Annual Dinner and Dance Fundraiser that will be held at Land’s End, in Sayville, N.Y., on April 30, 2015.
