Opportunities For Artists To Change The World

By Renee Phillips 4 Comments

Lily Yeh is an artist who is changing the world.

You may wish in one bold brush stroke you could paint peace throughout the globe or create a three-dimensional world-wide love connection or stop hunger by displaying photographic images of food. It might not be that easy, however, that shouldn’t stop you from taking advantage of your artistic and humanistic potential to change the world or change another person’s life for the better. Your art can serve as a catalyst for healing. I hope this article gets you motivated and inspired to get your creative juices flowing to help others. If you’re looking for ideas Read Our Many Articles About World Changers.

Lily Yeh is Changing the World as Founder of Barefoot Artists Organization

Lily Yeh founded the Barefoot Artists Organization in 2002. She travels all over the world and tirelessly brings together people who live in such despairing environments into a dance of art. She is one of our favorite world changers. founded in 2002, and Barefoot Artists

She engages people in the work of transforming the environment of their communities through beauty and in so doing honors their humanity. Her projects have taken her to a rundown area of Philadelphia; the slums of Nairobi; to a genocide site in Rwanda; the West Bank of Palestine; impoverished communities in Taiwan; a city dump in Korogocho, Kenya and many other places.

Global Fund For Women Grantees Are Changing The World

Global Fund for Women believes “that women are powerful catalysts for change and that strong women’s organizations and movements make transformative shifts in power that are crucial to women realizing their rights and creating lasting solutions to the world’s problems.”

Its grantees (only available to organizations outside the U.S.) have gone on to win the Nobel Peace Prize, be elected to parliament, overthrow oppressive regimes, and end wars. “We are able to find, fund, and collaborate with women-led groups who employ creative and groundbreaking strategies to address challenges that women and girls face in their communities.”

“Our grantee partners are changing the world. How do we know? We use the “change matrix,” a framework our team adapted from Gender at Work to measure how the grassroots organizations we support are on track to achieve and sustain rights for women and girls.”

Even if you’re not an organization leader who is a grantee contender you may still donate to Global Fund for Women. Why not organize a fund-raising exhibition or event for this organization?

Change Someone’s Life / Change Their World
You may not be able to change the world but you can change another person’s life — perhaps even save their life. How? By sharing your experiences about how art provided a catalyst for healing in your life. Has creating visual art helped you cope with an emotional, psychological or physical challenge? By sharing your story you may have a profound impact on others.

Renee, my thanks for another great post offering additional resources for artists to find avenues to use their art for healing. As you’re aware, that’s something I strongly promote and have the joy of participating in.

Last week I had the pleasure of viewing my photography and the work of other artists in an Open House celebration for UW Health The American Center in Madison, Wisconsin. It’s a beautiful spacious facility that includes orthopedic surgery, rehabilitation therapy, and sports medicine. Two of my photographs great visitors as they enter the Emergency Room, perfect placement for work that I hope will provide a moment of respite.

Thank you Janis! I’m sure those who visit the Emergency Room smile and relax, knowing all is good with the world, when greeted by your beautiful, joyful photographs. Your positive energy and love for nature shines through them. Thanks for all the good deeds you do in art and in social media.
