Marni Spencer-Devlin Creates Joyful, Abstract Sculptural Paintings

By Renee Phillips Leave a Comment

Marni is a color virtuoso with a bold, sophisticated and confident approach to creating large-scale sculptural paintings. They emanate a scintillating healing energy that revitalizes the viewer.

She infuses her abstract expressionist works of art with an exuberant spontaneity and triumphant spirit propelled by her heartfelt desire to bring us joy and fulfillment.

Marni’s skillful versatility is characterized by a medley of luscious tactile surface features created with acrylic on plaster with double layers of epoxy on canvas.

The details in her organic forms often suggest botanical qualities inherent in nature, such as verdant foliage, tree bark, seeds, and pods, as well as the ethereal and atmospheric elements of sky and water.

Her expansive oeuvre captures the life-affirming micro and macro realms that surround us and within us which we often overlook. Through her art we gain an appreciation for the interconnectedness of universal laws in nature and humanity.

Marni extols the virtues of the healing power of art. Her paintings that contain soft neutral palettes and undulating, rhythmic forms evoke a sense of tranquility, harmony and renewal. Her paintings, with a profusion of vibrant colors and splatters, associated with action painters, evoke empowering sensations of kinetic energy and surges of vitality.

An extraordinary creative attribute of Marni’s artistic approach is the integration of the picture frames as part of her paintings. They serve as illuminating anchors and extensions that increase the spatial depth and volume of the work.

Marni’s superb designs arouse a myriad of visual and visceral interpretations. The configurations of varied colored squares may symbolize the passage of time and evolution. These diverse permutations in the quadrants may also awaken our acceptance of change and transformation, providing spiritual insight.

Marni’s contributions to our personal growth extend beyond her studio. She is the author of The Iceberg Principles, the best-selling book described as one that “outlines the philosophies that make Marni’s strategies so transformational and empowering.” She teaches her personal and professional “Authentic Leadership” to corporate professionals worldwide.

Through her art and counselling, Marni offers us the nurturing guidance we need to enhance our awareness, transcend limitation, and perpetuate wellbeing.
