Roopa has created a portrait series in which she honors people in her life who have made an impact on her, saying they are people she finds “beautiful in face and also in spirit.”

Artist’s Statement: “The beauty of being an American is that we have the Freedom of Religion and Expression that most countries of the world don’t. What better way to express those rights than through visual art? I happen to have opinions that may not be popular amongst my artistic circles, and isn’t that refreshingly wonderful? It is my hope that those of my art viewers who may not agree with my allegories, can at least be able to appreciate the beauty of how these allegories are presented. I happen to be in complete agreement with Dostoevsky, “Beauty will save the world.”

Interesting Fact about Roopa: “I am learning Pottery”.

Thank you for such an amazing write-up about what I do, Renee. When I am painting, I feel free. Our first amendment gives me that right as an artist to taste exactly that kind of freedom of expression. Free to explore places that only exist in my mind. It has been one heck of an amazing decade as a Chess Painter.
