An Exhibition of 80 Artists ~ September 4 – November 11, 2020

“The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS” is an initiative of Manhattan Arts International, based in NYC, NY. We believe art has the power to heal, inspire, provoke, challenge and offer hope. We raise awareness about how art is a positive catalyst for enhancing the well-being of individuals, society and the environment. We accomplish our goals through an inspirational online art gallery, articles and online art exhibitions.

“The Spirit of Resilience” online exhibition, September 4 – November 11, 2020, presented art by 80 artists from around the world. It communicated the spirit and power of resilience — in the human experience and in the natural world.

About the Curator / Selection Process

The curator, Renee Phillips, (founder of The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS and Director of Manhattan Arts International).
She made the final selections of all exhibiting artists. She based her decisions on how effectively the art fit the theme, the artist’s statement, and visits to the artist’s website to view the artist’s overall body of work, creative direction, and career achievements.
One work of art by each artist was selected in addition to their artist’s statement and link to their website.

This exhibition was widely promoted through The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS and Manhattan Arts International subscription based email newsletters and across social media — for a total estimate of 50,000 followers.

    Hello Renee

Just wanted to give you a shout out and thank you for the opportunity of participating with a couple of my pieces in “The Spirit of Resilience” Exhibit this year. Just hope I will be able to meet the criteria required by the deadline, which is tomorrow the 24th I believe, Wish me luck. If not we just have to catch the next one and not be under the gun with such short notice, Mia Culpa … was just texted about it tonight from my friend & mentor Hans Huebel. Enough said.

    Ciao

    Dear Renée,

Unfortunately, I have not yet a personal website, but only a Facebook page dedicated to my paintings.
I should like very much to enter my art for the “Spirit of Resilience” exhibit, because I correspond exactly to that spirit.

In fact, I have a history of physical disability which developed from rheumatoid arthritis. In 2001 I received this diagnosis, after months of excruciating pain and increasingly physical limitations, which affected the use of my hands and my ability to walk. Thus began years of debilitating pain, therapies, medications and hospitalizations. However I refused to give in to this chronic disease. Instead I discovered that I can manage the pain by taking brush to hand.
And one afternoon, after about two years, while I was sitting painting and listening to music, I realized that the pain had practically disappeared. I repeated the experiment in the following days. And yes, the act of painting has become a physical therapy that works to relieve me of both the physical and the mental pain I experience.

My art as therapy is still working for me today. I can paint, I can walk, I can live.

    Thanks Renée for your time.

    Nelly

      Dear Nelly,
Thank you very much for sharing your incredible healing experience through the healing power of art. I’m so happy for you! I’m sure your comment will offer hope and help to many people who suffer from pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis.

We will have more calls for artists and maybe by the time the next one is held you will have a website. There are many free options out there to build one. Check out this article on my other website that is on this topic: How to Get Started With Your New Art Website: https://renee-phillips.com/how-to-get-started-with-your-new-art-website/ for many helpful ideas.

Wishing you continued creative bliss and good health!

Just one thing, having a bit of a slow cognition day, when I name my jpeg first and last name I get ,but the entry number that goes with the entry form, is that just we’ve entered 1 jpeg so it would be fist last name 1 or is there a special number generated by the entry form that we use ? . I’ve also used American English just in case , you know color or colour 🙂 or am I overthinking . Thanks Kim

Hi Kim, Thank you for your question.
When you save your jpegs for us (in whatever photo imaging software program you use) please save them with: Kim-Johnson-1, Kim-Johnson-2, etc. They should correspond to how you list them on the entry form. I hope this helps!

    Hello, Rene,
I just submitted my entries and then I went back to look at the article and I was supposed to have labeled my files with my name and the number of my entry form. Is there a way I can redo this without making another entry and paying all over again?

I create sculptures which often require more than one photographic view to appreciate fully. Does the entry form allow for multiple views of a since artwork?

Good question, Adam. This is an online exhibition. If your art is selected, only one jpeg will be selected, so my advice is submit your best view(s).

Greetings Renee, Regarding submissions for the exhibit:

As a reemerging artist (healing from a career as a special education teacher for 35 years), I have had my domain for 20 years (designsinlines.com) though no completed website. I’ve begun to use Behance. Would my Behance website https://www.behance.net/designsinlines meet the submission guidelines at this time? If so I will expand the content there. I have been working on a WIX site and an Adobe myportfolio site, but have discovered I don’t have the skills to publish a site I would be proud of at this time.

Also, Could a series of 4 images be submitted as 1 entry? My ‘the quartet’ was digitally created and printed as 5 x 7s. If acceptable I would combine them in one jpeg. A ‘seeking balance’ pair of digital images would be the same.
Thanks in advance for your guidance in this process! patty

Dear Patty, I’m sorry, behance does not qualify as your own website. If your designsinlines.com website won’t be ready by August 23, I suggest you wait until our next call for artists. All the best to you as you relaunch your art career and your website!

    Dear Renee,
I very much would like to enter some images to “The Spirit of Resilience”.
One of your requirements are that images are in jpeg have 800 pixels wide or high.
My images are in the 3000 pixels range and when i scale them down to 800, the image is as small as a fingernail!
My question is : Would you accept images in the 2000 pixel range?
    Thank you,
    Dorothea

Dorothea, I sent you an email explaining our requirements. For everyone else with a similar question or concern, here is a quick reply: Although your image may appear small in your photo imaging software, rest assured a pixel measurement of 800 pixels does not change. It is a specific measurement (like inches).

Also, make sure your resolution size is 72-100 dpi. The file size for each jpeg submitted must not be larger than 1 mb. The answer is, we ask for 800 pixels on width or length (longest size). If the jpegs are too large, they may not load into your entry form.

Dear Miriam, Thank you very much for your interest in “The Spirit of Resilience” exhibition. One of our requirements is that all artists in the exhibition must have their own websites. Social media pages do not qualify. Is there any way that your website will be running by August 23? I hope so. Best of luck with it!

Are photographs taken with an IPhone and sent with the little arrow, considered adequate, ie jpeg? I can’t afford a professional photographer, and my watercolors are already framed. I have a small, approximately 5 by 7 painting of a toddler tackling the path to my lake, entitled “Exploration.” Would something like that be too small? Thank you. I also need help revamping my website. Do you do that or only start from scratch? My daughter handled it until 2,years ago when she had a baby. Thank you.

Thank you for your interest in submitting your art to “The Spirit of Resilience”. As stated in our requirements, Your photographs don’t have to be taken by a professional photographer, but JPEGS should be free of markings, cropped properly, etc. Any size art is acceptable, as this is an online art exhibition.

I am looking forward to entering my art for the “Spirit of Resilience” exhibit. (Love the theme-so many ideas are already sprouting in my head). A feq questions:
    1. What is the deadline for an “early entry”. What is the fee after this deadline?
    2. How many entries can an artist submit?
    3. Can I submit a painting already on your website?
    Please respond
    Thanks

(You may need to refresh your browser to see the most current version) Please note a special early entry fee of $15. To answer #3: I prefer to seen something new that hasn’t already appeared on our website, however that is not a requirement. I look forward to seeing your entries.
