Romeo Varga Creates An Awe-Inspiring Series “The Mystics of Montenegro”

By Renee Phillips 2 Comments

It is an honor to have been asked by Romeo Varga to write an Art Review about his series “The Mystics of Montenegro”. He is an extraordinary contemporary artist who creates art with skillful Old Master art techniques using a digital artistic process.

Romeo Varga is a European-Australian artist who has created an awe-inspiring series titled “The Mystics of Montenegro”. In this oeuvre of classic feminine beauty, he portrays beguiling muses, angels, and sea goddesses in enchanting mythological vistas. Imbued with the spirit of idealized romanticism his symbolic allegorical paintings recall an innocent, simpler bygone era of human existence which he infuses with his unique contemporary narrative.

Having created art since childhood Romeo’s current choice is digital media which he applies with the same professional precision as traditional mediums used by Old Masters. His skillful compositions are created stroke by stroke, layer upon layer, with modern technology.

Romeo offers his digital paintings as original digital works of art printed on Hahnemühle German Etching Fine Art Paper. In addition to his “The Mystics of Montenegro” series he creates extraordinary portrait paintings and more subjects.

Dear Renee, while creating this series, the title of the body of work ‘The Mystics of Montenegro’ was on my mind day and night as the works were being created. To see that very title in the headline of an article on a different continent is a surreal and indescribable experience which brings so much joy and emotions. Thank you so much for writing this review and for crafting these words to help me accurately describe my art practice to others. I read it often and value it greatly.
