Special Recognition Award-Winning Artist in Our “Art Inspired by Nature” 2026 Exhibition
Bob Crelin submitted his gorgeous floral paintings to be considered for our “Art Inspired by Nature” 2026 exhibition. I was immediately impressed by how he captured the beauty, atmospheric and emotive qualities and details of his subjects with masterful painting skills. His paintings are often perceived as photography.
After visiting Bob’s website and learning more about him I was equally impressed by his relentless commitment to Environmental Justice. In recognition of Bob’s many contributions to the world of art, healing, and raising awareness about our need to protect and preserve the natural world, I have selected Bob to receive a “Special Recognition Art Award” and have inducted him into our series of “World Changers”.
When Bob submitted his painting “Knapweed On The Rocks” he explained: “Knapweed On The Rocks is a “portrait” inspired by the striking florets of the Centaurea Stoebe (Knapweed), a wildflower in vivid tones of violet and fuchsia that graced my memories of midsummer countrysides. This work presents an intimate composition with visual depth, faithfully capturing the flower’s fascinating metamorphosis set against a pebbled river-rock landscape.”

Bob states: “I have been involved in a variety of environmental volunteerism (especially locally) beginning in high school and throughout much of my life. The work I became most deeply involved in was environmental light pollution mitigation (or, Dark Sky) efforts.
“Today, more than just losing the starry sky this issue has become understood as a critical threat to the nocturnal health of all living things – animals, plants, notably bird and insect populations, as well as human circadian health.
“As an inventor and marketing person, I applied my experience to create vehicles of public awareness, functional solutions, public presentations and comprehensive environmental regulations with the hope of affecting lasting change. I began this work when there was very little public knowledge of environmental light pollution at night.”
More About Bob’s Contributions
* Bob has written and enacted new municipal and state laws and guidelines to control environmental light pollution and trespass from commercial properties.
* He is the inventor of the “GlareBuster,” the first dark-sky friendly outdoor light fixture for homeowners.
* Bob has written the book “Faces of the Moon”, which is available on Amazon. He is also the author of “There Once Was a Sky Full of Stars” the first children’s book published introducing the fixable problem of light pollution and the wonders of the disappearing night sky. (currently out of print)
