As the curator for “The Healing Power of Art: Love, Peace, Unity & Hope” juried exhibition I chose 57 artists from around the world. I also selected artists to receive Special Recognition Art Awards. Three of them are featured here: Diane Fleisch Hughes; Rebecca Sobin; and Atousa Raissyan. Their aspirations and accomplishments extend beyond their visual creations and they are compelled to use their art and additional healing modalities to empower others. As you view their art and read their statements you will understand why they deserve to receive your special attention. Please visit their websites to see more of their art and learn more about them.
Diane Fleisch Hughes
Artist and Board Certified Art Therapist and Licensed Clinical Counselor
Diane Fleisch Hughes, dianefleischhughes.com, has exhibited her extraordinary artwork internationally and it is in many private and public collections including Mercyhurst University and Progressive. She is also a nationally board certified Art Therapist and community work is an important priority in her life. Diane is the Art Therapist at Julie Billiart School in Lyndhurst, Ohio and Adjunct Faculty in the graduate program at Ursuline College with which she participates in service learning trips around the world.
Diane’s meaningful figurative paintings convey important aspects about the human experience. Her style is characterized by an intuitive form of expression which includes animated elements of realism and abstracted forms. She works primarily in mixed media on paper and canvas.
When Diane submitted her entry to “The Healing Power of Art: Love, Peace, Unity & Hope” she wrote, “As an Art Therapist, I am naturally drawn to visually interpret themes of feelings and positive human conditions such as love, peace, unity and hope, as well as the struggle to obtain these things in our lives and in our world. We can only manifest this in our own small world but the ripple effect into our larger communities and the world is real. We must continue to focus on and push forward these ideals.”
Diane was selected as one of our “World Changers” as a result of being selected for our previous exhibition “The Spirit of Resilience”. Her painting “Entwined” was in the exhibition about which she wrote, “Research shows us that having the love and support from another greatly increases our ability to overcome adversity. Relationships foster resiliency.”

Now’s the time to pull our collective energies together to work for the good of all. Becoming compassionate, caring people we should embody Love, Peace, Unity and Hope. I believe it begins at home and in our communities, and then globally to hear, see, believe and honor all people.”

The journey can be more fun and enjoyable if we see each other with eyes of love and compassion. However to that first we must love and find peace in ourselves. Love and peace inside will break the walls and barriers we have created in ourselves and therefore remove the separation to the outside. My hope is that the energy of my art inspires and awakens you to that love and peace inside your heart that like a beacon is calling you home.”
